Project Spotlight: The Killarney Bungalow Transformation

The Challenge The homeowners loved the mature trees of Killarney, but their 1958 bungalow felt dark and compartmentalized. The kitchen was isolated from the living area, and the finishes hadn't been touched in decades. They wanted a space that felt connected, modern, and warm.

The Solution We removed the main load-bearing wall separating the kitchen and living room (installing a flush steel beam to keep the ceiling seamless). This instantly flooded the main floor with natural light from both the front and back windows.

Key Design Features

  • The Kitchen Island: We installed a 9-foot island featuring a waterfall edge in quartz, serving as the new heart of the home.
  • Warmth: To counter the white walls, we used Rift Sawn White Oak for the lower cabinets and the range hood cover.
  • Flow: The new layout allows for clear sightlines from the front door right through to the backyard deck.
